IRCC is a member of the Australian Christian Churches in the city of Ipswich. Ipswich is situated forty kilometres west of Brisbane, the capital of the state of Queensland, is the fourth largest city in the state and has a population of 150,000 people consisting of some 100 different nationalities speaking 90 languages. In 1991 Mark Edwards a former lawyer and fifth generation Ipswich citizen was appointed Senior Pastor of the church. He becomes only the third Senior Pastor, the former being Pastors Barry Muller and Warren Martin, since the church became associated with the Assemblies of God in Australia. The church itself is located on 16.02 hectares – a beautiful 1000 seat auditorium, five hundred square metre foyer with café and a 1000 square metre downstairs area for young people and children was completed in 2001 and now makes this campus one of the most well known sites in the city. The relocation of the church to this site was a huge undertaking for the people of IRCC. Yet as the area where the church situated is expected to become one of the Australia’s fastest growing population areas, everyone involved at the time of the relocation and building can now see God’s hand in the experience. Pastor Mark Edwards describes the church as being a ‘very friendly and welcoming’ church where people of all ages, gender and nationality can feel at home. He is often heard saying that, ‘We need to be a church where people who are Christians and people who have never been to church before can all be a part of IRCC.’ That is the vision of the church – it is to see all people drawn into a relationship with Jesus Christ. People who have been Christians for many years, those who are just commencing on their spiritual journey and those who are still deciding about becoming a Christ follower are all welcome at this church called Ipswich Region Community Church. A church for everyone! That’s our church!
