Devotions - the what, how and the why! What? Devotions, is what it sounds like - Devotion. Time spent focussing on God and his word. You might hear devotions being called daily devotions. That is because devotion to the Lord should be done on a regular basis for your own spiritual growth and benefit, and regularly is daily for some. How? The easiest way to start doing devotions is to obtain a devotional card or reading schedule. Some are found at the back of some Bibles, you can pick one up from the IRCC reception or you can download them here. 1 Year Devotions Plan 2 Year Devotions Plan Once you've obtained the card, find todays date and follow the steps: Step 1. Find the Bible reading corresponding to today's date from the Bible reading program. Turn to the chapter in your Bible, asking the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Mark off each daily reading as you complete it to keep yourself accountable. Step 2. Read the passages. As you are reading, underline anything the Lord impresses on you as a personal word to be applied. When you read with an open heart, the Lord will give you words of encouragement, direction and corrections (2 Tim 3:16) Step 3. When God has revealed a special lesson of life to you, turn to a fresh page in your diary to record what God has just shown you. - Enter the date - Give the lesson a title - Record the scripture that spoke to you - Think about what that passage means to you and write down your thoughts - Record a prayer. Ask God's help to live your life differently because of what you have just read. Why? Doing devotions will help you grow more mature in the path the God has laid before you. Obtain your copy of the tape "Developing Daily Devotions" to reinforce the wonderful benefits of developing a daily devotional program.
